In a nutshell: our organic Sichuan green tea brings together a bright Sencha, orange peel, cinnamon and pink pepper. Brew at 70-80°C for 2-3 minutes, using 12-15 g per litre. Spiced, fruity and indulgent.

Some teas are made for cooler days, when you're looking for a cup that is both lively and comforting. Our green teas Sichuan is one of them. An organic Sencha provides a clean, vegetal base, over which orange, cinnamon, liquorice and a hint of pepper weave their dance.

This blend was created in our workshop as a small sensory journey, with no artifice. Every ingredient is organically grown and chosen for its precise role in the aromatic bouquet. Nothing is there by chance: each element serves the roundness of the cup.

If you enjoy flavoured green teas and want to deepen your knowledge, our guide to green tea will walk you through it step by step.

The aromatic profile of Sichuan green tea

The moment you open the bag, the fragrance unfolds: a breath of candied orange peel, a warm note of cinnamon, then the fresh, herbaceous quality of Sencha in the background. The nose is immediately inviting, without any heaviness.

On the palate, the infusion reveals three distinct layers with every sip:

  • Top notes: orange peel and its natural aroma bring a fruity, almost sun-drenched freshness that opens the tasting.
  • Heart notes: cinnamon and liquorice root settle into a naturally sweet, lightly woody warmth, through which the Sencha unfolds its green, fresh character.
  • Base notes: pink pepper leaves a subtle, lingering spice, supported by rose petals and lavender that carry the cup into delicate floral territory.

China Jasmine Silverneedle, added as a fine finishing touch, signs off with an almost imperceptible note of jasmine that lifts the whole blend. The result: a spiced green tea, free from bitterness, in which every organic ingredient remains clearly readable.

The liquor takes on a golden hue with green highlights, clear and bright. Its texture in the mouth is round, almost velvety, thanks to the liquorice, which naturally smooths the cup without any added sugar.

How to brew Sichuan green tea

A great green tea starts with water at the right temperature. Too hot, and it scorches the leaves, drawing out bitterness; too cool, and it fails to release the spices' aromas. Here are our house guidelines for a balanced cup.

The water. Choose a low-mineral still water, heated to 70-80°C. If you don't have a temperature-controlled kettle, bring the water to a boil and let it rest off the heat for about two minutes before pouring.

The quantity. Use 12 to 15 g of leaves per litre, roughly one heaped tablespoon for a 300 ml mug. With this blend, a generous dose brings out the orange and cinnamon beautifully.

The steeping time. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes, no longer. Beyond that, the liquorice and Sencha can overshadow the fruity balance.

The accessories. A large paper filter or a fine-mesh infuser works perfectly: the whole leaves and pieces of peel need room to open up. Avoid overly tight tea balls, which hold the bouquet back.

This blend lends itself to a second infusion: pour water at 75°C over the same leaves and steep for one minute longer. You'll discover a more vegetal cup, where the Sencha takes centre stage and the spices become more understated.

In terms of occasion, this blend suits a crisp morning just as well as a rainy afternoon, or alongside a fruit pastry. Explore our other organic green teas to vary your rituals through the seasons.

Storing Sichuan green tea

Keep this green tea in an airtight tin, away from light, moisture and strong odours. The rose petals and lavender, particularly delicate, quickly lose their freshness when exposed to air.

Packed in our workshop, this blend holds its full character for around 18 months. After that, it remains pleasant but its floral notes gradually fade. Ideally, enjoy it within 6 to 8 months of opening to experience the full range of its aromas.

Frequently asked questions

What does Sichuan green tea taste like?
This blend combines the vegetal freshness of Sencha with notes of orange peel, cinnamon and liquorice, complemented by a floral touch of rose and lavender and a gentle spiced warmth from pink pepper. The overall character is round, fruity and indulgent.

How do you prepare Sichuan green tea?
Use water at 70-80°C, measure out 12 to 15 g of leaves per litre and steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Water that is too hot, or steeping for too long, will draw out bitterness from the Sencha and upset the balance of the spices.

What varieties of Sichuan green tea exist?
The name covers a wide range of house blends with very different compositions. Our version brings together Sencha, orange peel, cinnamon, liquorice, pink pepper, lavender, rose petals and a touch of China Jasmine Silverneedle, all sourced from organic farming.

Where can I buy organic Sichuan green tea?
We offer this creation loose-leaf, packed in our own workshop. You'll find it alongside our other organic green teas, selected leaf by leaf by Julien Huot, founder of Thés & Traditions.
