Natural rooibos: the caffeine-free red tea from Africa

Produced in the Cederberg mountains north of Cape Town, rooibos is exclusively native to South Africa. Referring to its rust or copper color, South Africans named it "red bush". As fine as needles, rooibos leaves offer a red-orange liquor with a delicate taste that becomes full-bodied but never bitter, even with prolonged steeping. Our natural rooibos from organic farming can be flavored with vanilla or combined with other ingredients to create a drink that is both delicious and original.

The benefits and virtues of natural rooibos

Rich in antioxidants, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, rooibos or red tea is sought after for its remineralizing and anti-aging virtues as well as its preventive properties against asthma, allergies, eczema, or insomnia. Rooibos is also known for its action against digestive and intestinal transit disorders. Free from caffeine and theine, red tea can be consumed at any age. In South Africa, rooibos infusion is served to young children and grandparents alike.

Our tasting tips

How to prepare natural rooibos?

The preparation of organic natural rooibos is similar to that of green teas. To succeed with your infusion, the water must be boiling and not simmering. Its steeping time is longer: you'll need to wait between 7 and 10 minutes before enjoying your natural rooibos with its natural nutty taste.

How much natural rooibos?

Use 15 to 20 grams of organic natural rooibos leaves per 1 liter of water. The weight for a standard cup is about 3 to 4 grams, or 1 heaping teaspoon.

What is the ideal steeping temperature for natural rooibos?

Some infusions require simmering water. This is particularly true for green teas and white teas. Natural organic rooibos infusion requires water at 100°C. After 7 to 10 minutes, the leaves have fully flavored your cup. Your rooibos is ready. Before infusing, don't hesitate to scald your accessories: teapots and cups.

When to drink natural rooibos?

Plain or with milk, organic rooibos can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Served cold, organic rooibos can be used to prepare iced drinks with refreshing fruit flavors like orange or lemon.

The advantages of loose natural rooibos

At Thés & Traditions, our organic natural rooibos is offered loose. It is packaged in ziplock bags or tins to provide optimal quality and freshness. Unlike individual tea bags, our loose organic rooibos contains only whole leaves to guarantee a drink with impeccable taste.

I already knew about it and gave it as a Christmas present to someone who didn't know about it. I know it's not a tea, but it's an excellent product for your health. (Translated review)
