10 Homemade Ginger Infusion Ideas to Try at Home

1. Ginger tisane: the original recipe

Ginger is known for its wellness benefits. The root is said to support digestion and help ease the symptoms of motion sickness, including nausea. To enjoy its peppery character and natural virtues, nothing beats a homemade ginger infusion. Simply steep ginger pieces in boiling water. Use about 15 grams per litre, which works out to one teaspoon of ginger per cup. Let it steep for 7 to 10 minutes before tasting. [dp_product id=288 domain=0 ]

2. Ginger and lemon infusion

This is the most popular ginger infusion recipe. Lemon adds a bright, tangy note to the tisane. Drop a slice of lemon into your cup, add a splash of lemon juice or a few strips of zest. For variety, pair ginger with lime, orange or even kaffir lime.

3. Ginger and honey tisane

For a softer cup, stir a teaspoon of honey into your ginger infusion. Honey acts as a natural sweetener, so you can skip the sugar. It rounds out the spicy bite of ginger and balances the acidity of lemon in the previous recipe.

4. Ginger and spice infusions

In cooking, ginger is often paired with spices, and your infusion is no exception. Add masala spice blends, turmeric, ground cinnamon, pepper or cardamom to your tisane. Adjust the spices and quantities to suit your taste.

5. Ginger and mint infusion

For a cup full of freshness, combine ginger with mint. You can also try peppermint, which brings a more pronounced, peppery edge. Like ginger, it also helps with digestion. For a summer version, add a sprig of rosemary to the water of your ginger and mint infusion. You can prepare this recipe in summer and enjoy it chilled.

6. Tea infusions with ginger

Are you a tea lover? Ginger blends beautifully with green teas, white teas and rooibos. Make your own blend by adding ginger pieces to loose leaves, or opt for ready-made loose blends, such as our organic Sencha green tea with ginger and lemon. To preserve the flavour of the leaves, keep the steeping time short, around 2 to 3 minutes.

7. Add herbs to your ginger infusions

Steeping ginger with herbs brings together both the flavours and the benefits of each ingredient. If you have no lemon on hand, add lemongrass instead, which gives a similar citrus lift to your ginger infusion. Verbena and chamomile are lovely additions to an evening ginger tisane. To enhance the naturally spicy character of your cup, infuse nettle alongside the ginger.

8. Add fruit to your homemade ginger drink

To soften your ginger infusion, you can stir in a teaspoon of honey, or turn to other naturally sweet ingredients such as dried fruit. Beyond lemon, ginger root pairs wonderfully with apple, peach, date, grape, red fruits and berries.

9. Ginger and cocoa infusion recipe

For a truly comforting tisane, turn to chocolate. Make a ginger and cocoa infusion by adding cocoa husks. If you do not have any to hand, stir a teaspoon of cocoa powder into the water of your infusion. Round out the recipe with pantry staples such as cinnamon or vanilla.

10. Infuse flowers in your ginger tisane

Dried flowers bring a naturally spring-like aroma to a ginger infusion. Try steeping mallow, marigold, rose petals, cornflower or lavender. Like herbs, some flowers help to soothe everyday discomforts. Choose your favourite recipe, then set about preparing your cup. Let it steep for a few minutes and enjoy your ginger infusion.
