The aromatic profile of this festive rooibos
Organic rooibos forms the backdrop here: its gently sweet, naturally rounded woody note welcomes the spices without ever fading into the background. That is the signature of this South African plant, explored in greater depth in our guide what is rooibos.
On the opening, orange peel and natural orange flavouring deliver a bright, sunny burst, at once fresh and candied. It recalls the sensation of glacé citrus resting on a gingerbread fresh from the oven.
At the heart, cinnamon sticks and natural cinnamon flavouring unfurl their enveloping warmth. Cardamom adds a lively, faintly camphorous aromatic note that balances the sweet roundness of the apple pieces.
On the finish, clove leaves its mark with a bold, woody note, while rose petals trace a quietly floral trail. A true festive spice composition, generous yet never heavy.

How to brew Christmas Rooibos
Preparation makes all the difference. Too little leaf and the spices are lost; the wrong temperature and the cup stays timid. Here are the parameters validated by our team.
- Water: filtered or low-mineral, fresh from the tap if the quality is good.
- Temperature: 100°C, fully boiling. Rooibos handles a rolling boil perfectly, and the heat is essential for drawing out the spices.
- Amount: 15 to 20 g per litre, roughly two heaped tablespoons for a family teapot.
- Time: 7 to 10 minutes. Longer than most teas, but without any bitterness, as rooibos simply does not develop it.
Pour the boiling water directly over the blend and steep covered to preserve the volatile aromatic compounds of the spices. Strain, then sip as it is, or round out the experience with a splash of plant-based milk for a creamy rooibos latte, perfect on a winter evening.
You can also serve it iced for milder holiday gatherings: double the amount, brew hot, let it cool, then pour over ice with a fresh orange slice. Try our Christmas Rooibos as a hot infusion for your evenings by the fireside.
Storage
Packed in our workshop, this rooibos keeps best in its airtight tin, away from light, heat and humidity. Store it away from strong odours, such as coffee or open spices, which could alter its bouquet.
Reseal the tin carefully after each use. Best enjoyed within 12 to 18 months, it retains its full aromatic freshness throughout that period. To learn more about this plant, visit our complete guide Everything You Need to Know About Rooibos and explore the origins of rooibos.
