In a nutshell: Oolong Jianxin is a fruity blue tea blending oolong, Sencha and Pai Mu Tan with pomegranate, hibiscus and açai. Steep 12 to 15 g/L at 80°C for 2 to 4 minutes.
Conceived as a blend with real character, Oolong Jianxin brings together three great tea families in a single cup: an oolong, a green Sencha and a white Pai Mu Tan. To this refined base are added pomegranate, hibiscus, açai and delicate cornflower petals.
The result is a copper-hued infusion, at once round, floral and fruity, equally wonderful served hot or iced. Explore our selection of organic oolong teas, with their bright and approachable profiles, crafted by Julien Huot.
The Aromatic Profile of Oolong Jianxin
Open the pouch and the scent unfolds immediately: pomegranate bursts to the fore, carried by the smooth vegetal roundness of the oolong and the tangy freshness of hibiscus. A generous bouquet, never heavy, that sets the tone for a beautifully balanced tasting.
On the palate, this blend reveals several aromatic layers in the great tradition of flavoured oolongs:
- Top notes: pomegranate takes centre stage, juicy and tangy. A vivid fruity flavour reminiscent of a ripe, almost candied berry.
- Heart notes: hibiscus brings a floral, lightly tannic touch, while açai adds a woody, fruity depth.
- Base notes: the oolong unfurls its honeyed roundness, the Sencha its green freshness, and the Pai Mu Tan a soft, silky finish, almost cottony.
- Floral touch: cornflower petals scatter delicate spring notes through the liquor, giving the blend its signature blue visual character.
This harmony of flower, fruit and leaf makes the Jianxin a tea for any mood: a gentle awakening in the morning, or a quiet afternoon pause stretched a little longer. You might also enjoy our orange blossom oolong if you lean towards more pronounced floral profiles.
How to Prepare Oolong Jianxin
Oolong is a semi-oxidised tea that rewards a little care in the brewing, which directly shapes the roundness and expression of its fruity notes.
Here are the parameters our house recommends for this blend:
- Quantity: 12 to 15 g per litre, roughly 2 heaped teaspoons for a 50 cl teapot.
- Temperature: 80°C. Do not exceed this, as higher heat draws too much tannin from the hibiscus.
- Steeping time: 2 to 4 minutes, depending on the intensity you prefer. 2 minutes for a light, fruity cup; 4 for a richer, fuller liquor.
- Water: low in minerals, ideally filtered, so as not to mask the delicacy of the pomegranate.
To go further, take a look at our guide on how to prepare oolong tea, which covers the gong fu cha method and the art of re-steeping the same leaves several times. You can also read our in-depth article, everything you need to know about oolong tea, to explore this tea family more fully.
For a cold brew, steep for 1 hour in the refrigerator (15 g/L): the pomegranate and hibiscus take on a wonderfully refreshing dimension. A perfect fruity herbal infusion for warm days. Try this blend cold-brewed for your summer afternoons.
Storing Your Oolong Tea
To preserve all the freshness of the natural aromas, keep your Jianxin in its original tin or an opaque airtight container, away from light, heat and strong odours. Ideally enjoyed within 18 months of opening, it will retain all its bright, fruity character.
