Like all teas, black tea comes from camellia sinensis. The initial color of its leaves is therefore green. However, they are fermented and become darker. The color of the beverage also intensifies.
Discover our black teas
All teas, except red tea, come from camellia sinensis, a Chinese tree. The colors of different teas depend on the fermentation of the leaves after oxidation.
White tea has the most natural coloration. Green tea undergoes only slight fermentation. Black tea is the one with the highest fermentation. The beverage then has a more intense coloration due to the oxidation of the leaves.
To obtain black leaves, the oxidation method is used. The tea leaves are crumpled, moistened and placed in sunlight. They blacken and change in taste. This technique does not alter the benefits of black tea.
Whether green or black, teas are very healthy drinks. The color is primarily a matter of manufacturing technique. Black tea has a slightly more pronounced taste. Its color is more intense and can be used as a hair dye.
