The sun, by day

In Japanese, tsukihi (月日) brings together two characters: the moon and the sun. Together, they also mean the passing of days. This tin is the solar version of that pairing. A large red disc takes center stage in the design, with seigaiha waves — a traditional motif of peace and good fortune — drawn across it in white. Around it: a luminous cream background, blush-toned diamond shapes, a sand-colored hillside, and white plum blossoms set against a corner of midnight blue. Gold trim on both the lid and base completes the piece.

Keeping your tea at its best

Tea has four natural enemies: light, moisture, heat, and strong odors. An opaque, airtight tin protects against the first three, as long as it's kept away from the stovetop and the spice cabinet. It's best to store one tea per tin: leaves quickly absorb the scent of their neighbors, especially flavored teas.

For upkeep, a dry cloth is all you need. Washi paper and water don't mix well, so avoid damp sponges and the dishwasher.
