This blend leads with vibrant citrus, grounded in a frank, vegetal base. Green Yerba Mate brings its characteristic herbaceous signature, slightly woody with an almost smoky background note. It's the backbone of the infusion.
On the top notes, lemon and bergamot essential oils burst through the moment you open the bag. They are carried forward by lemon peel and lemongrass, which extend the zesty freshness throughout the cup.
At the heart, powdered orange and pomegranate add a gently tart, fruity touch that softens the herbaceous structure. Moringa leaves, more subtle, contribute an almost mineral-green nuance that is very characteristic of this superfood.
At the base, guarana and maca leave a noble, earthy bitterness that balances the citrus acidity. It is this deep, rooted base that defines the energising character of the blend and gives it its lasting finish.
This blend is prepared in the French style, in a teapot or a filtered mug, without a gourd or bombilla. It's the simplest way to enjoy its full range of aromas.
Use 14 to 17 grams per litre of water, roughly a heaped tablespoon for a large cup. Heat low-mineral water to 100°C and pour it directly over the leaves.
Steep for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the strength you prefer. The longer the infusion, the more the tonifying character of the guarana and maca comes through, with a more pronounced herbaceous bitterness. Strain and enjoy straight away.
For an iced version, double the dose, brew hot and pour over ice: the citrus notes take centre stage for a perfectly refreshing mid-day drink. Try our Maté Fruity Boost for an even sunnier variation.
Yerba Mate has traditionally been consumed in South America for its invigorating effect. Its mateine content, a compound closely related to caffeine, helps reduce fatigue and support alertness, as recognised by the EFSA for caffeinated beverages.
Guarana, also caffeinated, complements this effect in a more gradual way. This sustained release is why our blend is often experienced as a smoother, longer-lasting alternative to filter coffee.
Maca root is traditionally used in the Andes to support physical energy and resistance to fatigue. The ANSES nonetheless recommends mindful consumption of plants containing caffeine.
Yerba Mate is also a notable source of natural antioxidants, as indicated by several studies referenced on PubMed. Julien Huot, founder of Thés & Traditions, personally selects each batch to preserve this botanical richness.
Store this blend in its original tin or an airtight container, away from light, heat and moisture. As citrus essential oils are volatile, avoid clear jars left in direct light. Enjoyed within twelve months, it reveals the full depth of its energising, fruity profile.
