Crafted from tinplate and dressed in washi paper, this tea caddy holds around 200 g of tea and keeps it safe from light, moisture and outside aromas. Waves the color of dusk

Seigaiha is one of Japan's oldest patterns: concentric arcs layering over one another like endless waves, a symbol of peace and quiet good fortune. Here, it unfolds in vivid orange against lightly satin-finished black washi paper, wrapping around the tin in steady bands. From a distance, you notice the color first, warm and unapologetic. Up close, the curve of each wave reveals itself. It was this contrast that gave the tin its name, Yunami (夕波), "the evening waves."

About the tin

Materials: tinplate wrapped in washi, the traditional Japanese paper known for its long fibers and soft feel.

Keeping your tea at its best

Tea has four natural enemies: light, moisture, heat, and strong odors. An opaque, well-sealed tin protects against the first three, as long as it's stored away from the stovetop and the spice cupboard. Ideally, keep one tea per tin: leaves absorb the scent of whatever is nearby, especially flavored blends.

To clean, a dry cloth is all you need. Washi paper is not fond of water, so avoid damp sponges and the dishwasher.
