The aromatic profile of blackcurrant black tea

The cup reveals a beautiful deep amber liquor, with purple highlights when the light catches it. The scent that rises when you open the bag is instantly recognisable: a bright, tangy fruit note, underpinned by the rounded maltiness of Assam.

On the palate, the first impression is fruity and juicy. Blackcurrant gives depth and character, redcurrant adds a lively, almost wild tartness. The blackberry leaves leave a gentle tannic, vegetal touch that evokes woodland after rain.

The finish is smooth and faintly honeyed, with no bitterness. This is a generous infusion that will delight lovers of bold, honest flavours and red and black berries. To extend this fruity journey, discover also the honeyed scent of cornflower in another of our creations.

How to prepare blackcurrant black tea

Brewing this fruit black tea takes very little effort, but a few key guidelines will help you draw out the full richness of its bouquet. Here are our recommended parameters, tested and refined in-house.

  • Water: bring low-mineral water to a rolling boil at 100°C.
  • Quantity: use 12 to 15g of leaves per litre, roughly one heaped tablespoon for a large mug.
  • Steeping time: steep for 3 to 5 minutes depending on the intensity you prefer. 3 minutes for a fruity, lighter cup; 5 minutes for a fuller-bodied result.
  • Filtering: pour through a fine-mesh strainer to catch any dried fruit pieces.

For iced tea, double the quantity and steep cold in the refrigerator for 6 to 8 hours. Serve over ice with a slice of lemon: a blackcurrant iced tea you can sip all through a summer's day.
