The aromatic profile of Venus Garden
Open the packet and the scent is immediately inviting: baked apple, orange zest, a warm hint of cinnamon. As it steeps, the liquor turns a rich amber and the bouquet unfolds in three layers.
- Top notes: orange peel, blood orange and lemon aroma, bright freshness of lemongrass.
- Heart notes: candied apple and quince, mellow grape, goji berries and physalis for a gently tart, rounded fruitiness.
- Base notes: whole verbena, passionflower, rose petals and cinnamon sticks, closing on a soft and soothing finish.
On the palate, the balance plays between the citrus tang and the sweet flesh of the fruit. This is a very approachable infusion, equally loved by those who enjoy fruity drinks and those seeking a calming evening cup. For a greener, more mentholated variation, you might also enjoy our Green Point herbal infusion, more invigorating and spring-like in character.
Julien Huot, founder of Thés & Traditions, created this recipe as a full-season blend: whole fruits, leaf-form herbs, citrus peel, with no added colouring or sugar. The simplicity of the ingredient list is the signature of this blend.
How to brew Venus Garden
This infusion calls for fully boiling water, essential to draw out the dried fruit pieces, spices and whole herbs it contains. The preparation is straightforward, and the result is wonderfully aromatic.
- Water: low in minerals, low in calcium, ideally filtered.
- Temperature: 100°C, at a full boil.
- Quantity: 12 to 15 g per litre, roughly one heaped tablespoon per cup.
- Steeping time: 7 to 10 minutes, depending on the strength you prefer.
For a hot cup, pour the boiling water over the blend in a teapot with a wide-basket infuser and steep covered, to preserve the volatile aromas of the orange peel and lemongrass. For an iced version, double the quantity, steep for 10 minutes, then pour over ice: the apple and orange take on a wonderfully refreshing, summery quality, perfect served in a pitcher at the table.
For further guidance on choosing your everyday infusion, our guide which herbal infusion to choose outlines flavour profiles by time of day and mood. Try this infusion after a meal, where its rounded fruitiness pairs beautifully with a fruit-based dessert or a slice of gingerbread.
Storage
Store your herbal infusion in its original tin or in an airtight container made of metal or opaque glass, away from light, heat and strong kitchen odours. Kept this way, the blend retains its fresh, fruity character and citrus scent for 18 to 24 months.
